THE PITCH
While the past three teams to bat first in Adelaide have posted more than 500, it is not expected to be a batting paradise this time around. The wicket block consists of only three pitches. The ones alongside the Test pitch good-length grass atop them, while the pitch itself is unusually green. None of this is a coincidence. All of the administrators involved in hosting the match want to make conditions as favourable as possible for the pink ball, so it retains its colour for as long as possible. Such a pitch would generally tempt a captain to field first, however the trait in trial matches of batting being toughest under lights could influence the decision on winning the toss, as in even if conditions are tough for batting early they could be even tougher later.
