November 2015: Esperance, Western Australia Two women and two men died after trying to escape a bushfire near Esperance in their vehicles. More than 300 people have been evacuated from affected areas. 
  January 2014: Grampians, Victoria One woman was killed when a raging bushfire burnt more than 33,000ha. Hundreds of people evacuated as more than 40 fires burned across the state.
  January 2014: Parkerville, Western Australia A man was killed while preparing his home during a massive bushfire in the Perth Hills area. The blaze destroyed 44 homes and burned more than 650ha.
  October 2013: NSW Two people died and almost 250 homes were destroyed when an estimated 100 fires, including six major bushfires, burnt across eastern NSW. The most serious fires started in the Blue Mountains on   October 16 and 17.
  February 2009: Victoria A total of 173 people died and more than 2000 homes were razed in the Black Saturday bushfires that scorched 445,000ha of southern Victoria. The conditions on the day were some of the worst bushfire weather conditions ever recorded. Temperatures reached 46C with winds in excess of 100km/h.
  December 2007: Boorabbin National Park, Western Australia The bodies of three men were found in two burnt-out trucks on the Great Eastern Highway in a section of Boorabbin National Park. With strong north-westerly winds and 43C, firefighters struggled to contain the blaze, which burnt more than 4000ha.
  January 2005: Port Lincoln, South AustraliaNine people died during Black Tuesday after a bushfire tore through the Eyre Peninsula. It destroyed almost 80 properties, more than 300 sheds and burnt more than 80,000ha of land. It remains one of Australia's worst bushfires since the notorious Ash Wednesday fires in 1983.
