THE Sunday Territorian is the only mainstream newspaper in Australia to have increased -circulation in the past year.
Latest Audit Bureau of Circulations figures show the Sunday Territorian has increased paid sales from 15,464 in the July- September 2014 quarter to 15,923 for the same quarter this year.
The 3 per cent increase was by far the best result of any newspaper in the nation. Sunday Territorian editor Matt Williams said the relaunch of the 'Terra' in mid- June had been an overwhelming success.
"Our new 32-page Frontier liftout, which is edited by Kylie Stevenson, has been unbelievably well received by our readers," he said.
"The liftout has a great local feel and is designed to complement the Territorian way of life which is different to anywhere else in the country.
"Some of the news features we have published, which have largely been written by Ellie Turner, have provided readers with first-class journalism they can't get anywhere else.
"New additions such as -Humans of the NT and the hilarious Ask Woody column have been a hit and we also moved the TV Guide into Sunday's paper. "Our icon, Bushranger, continues to go from strength to strength on Page 2 while we've also put a stronger focus on improving our news coverage and offering more local opinion.
"I would especially like to thank Kylie and Ellie for their fantastic work, deputy editor Luke Keenan, news editors Zach Hope and Jill Poulsen, our contributors, and the rest of the editorial team who have helped make the 'Terra' a must read." Mr Williams said the increase in circulation was a vote of confidence in the paper.
"We've all heard about the supposed demise of newspapers but these figures show newspapers are very much a way of life for people, particularly in the Territory," he said.
"For only $1.40, the Sunday Territorian offers its readers great value for money and I can't thank the readers and advertisers enough for their ongoing support."Circulation for the Monday to Friday editions of the NT News dropped only marginally by 3.5 per cent from 14,724 to 14,210 while average sales of Saturday's NT News fell 6.5 per cent from 21,190 to 19,821.
