Lunch
West Indies 5-35 (2nd)
Braithwaite 21*, Holder 1*
Key batsman
Kraigg Brathwaite: When Darren Bravo was bowled by James Pattinson before lunch, the prospect of the game extending into a fourth day was all but snuffed out. Thankfully, one of his teammates filled the void. Brathwaite is only 23 but, because he has been playing Tests for 4\xC2½ years, he already has four centuries to his name. The right-hander did not match Bravo's first-innings performance for elegance, but he played with enough authority to ensure Australia's bowlers will not take him lightly in the future.
Key bowler
James Pattinson: After a conspicuously rusty comeback in the first innings, Pattinson needed a much-improved performance in the second. He responded by removing five of the West Indies' top seven batsmen across his first two spells. One of the most encouraging dismissals was that of Marlon Samuels, given it bounced much more than the batsman expected and lobbed off the shoulder of his bat to David Warner at gully. Pattinson has bowled better than he did on Saturday and got much less reward.
The moment
Given Brathwaite was on 69 when last man Jomel Warrican came to the crease, there was no reason to think a century was even a remote possibility. That changed when he struck four consecutive boundaries as he plundered 19 runs from one Mitch Marsh over. When he managed another boundary in the next over, from Josh Hazlewood, he was just six runs from that unlikely milestone. On a day devoid of highlights, seeing Brathwaite drive and cut his way to four consecutive boundaries was something to savour.
