Key batsman
Adam Voges. He could not have been given a gentler welcome, a low full-toss from spinner Jomel Warrican he effortlessly stroked for a boundary. While most of the subsequent deliveries to him were not as easy, he made it look that way. He maintained an impressive scoring rate throughout, needing only 55 deliveries for his half-century and 100 for his century. His level of authority was reminiscent of his century in Hobart in last season's Sheffield Shield final. The spin bowling was not of high quality, but even still it was impressive to see how confidently and crisply the veteran swept them to the boundary.
Key bowler
Jason Holder. This literally could have have been left blank. But for the interests of tradition we will oblige. Left-arm finger-spinner Jomel Warrican claimed two crucial scalps, David Warner and Steve Smith, before lunch, but made so little impact as the stock bowler that his captain was more deserving of the honour. Holder is the slowest of the Windies' seamers, but he makes up for it by exploiting his 201-centimetre frame to achieve steepling bounce. The right-armer had Warner grasping after getting a ball to move sharply away from the left-hander. He showed his concession of eight runs from his first over, after which he took himself off, was just a blip.
The moment
Voges was on 98 in the final over before tea when he drove Warrican to deep mid-on. He was willing to accept one run but his partner, Shaun Marsh, insisted on two. While Marsh has previously blundered between the wickets when a century is on the line - he ran himself out for 99 in last year's Boxing Day Test - his gamble here paid off as the throw missed and Voges brought up his run-a-ball century. It mean he went to the break being able to focus on a big hundred.
The numbers
70. Runs scored in the first 10 overs, 56 of them in boundaries. It was the fastest score in a Test by a batting team in at least 15 years.
50. Overs bowled by tea, even with Warrican accounting for almost a third of them. It was at least eight below the mandated minimum.
