CRICKET is preparing to unleash its international superstars on the world's biggest sporting market with plans to stage the World Twenty20 on US soil.
Mirroring soccer's launch into North America on the back of the 1994 FIFA World Cup, the ICC is serious about making a similar splash in a country where it has 10.5 million ready-made fans. Male and female students could be playing cricket at college level within a few years and the ICC also has plans for a North American professional Twenty20 league as it prepares to turn the once fumbling USA Cricket Association into a global force.Australia is helping lead the charge and it's possible Steve Smith and David Warner could be playing big international T20 matches against other cricketing heavyweights in North America within 18 months. The grand mission is to stage the 2024 World T20 showpiece on US soil.
