Greater Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron believes Heath Shaw, the "rock" of the Giants' defence, deserves to win his first All-Australian selection this year.
Shaw, in his 12th season of league football, is having arguably a career-best year and is set to feature prominently during the awards season.
The defender is the player to beat for the Giants' best and fairest award and his name is likely to be discussed at length by the All-Australian selection panel. Shaw leads the competition for rebound 50s and bounces and though he is the Giants' chief counter-attacker he has been rarely beaten as a defender.
"He's been terrific. He's had a magnificent year, he's probably in All-Australian form, in fact he is in All-Australian form," Cameron said. "He's been a rock down there, not only with beating his man. I think people tend to think Heath Shaw is a rebounding defender, he's been our best defender in terms of stopping his man. He plays on all the really good small to medium defenders, he gets the job done and he also gets the footy.
"We couldn't be more happy with him. He first came to the club last year, to his standards it was a pretty good year but he wanted to take it to another level and he has.
"He's been the most consistent performer all year," Cameron said. Should the former Collingwood player get the nod from selectors, he would be the club's second All-Australian.
