JARRYD Hayne, by the time you read this, will be -donning a helmet to take on the United States.
Lining up against Eminem and LeBron James. Jamie Foxx and Kelly Clarkson, Stone Cold, Homer Simpson, even G.W. Bush.
For when the Dallas Cowboys call themselves America's Team, they really mean it. Celebrity supporters. Check. Stadium for 80,000. Check.
And as for burrowing deep into the American psyche . . . well, Debbie never did San Francisco, right?
But Australia, we're on board with the 49ers. We'll grab our membership to Niners Nation this morning as Hayne - the running back who, until a week ago, had only played NFL on a video console - again looks to create history.
And, sure, we may be getting a little caught up in the hype. Niners head coach Jim Tomsula described as "nuts" our reaction to his running back's NFL debut.
But as far as sporting yarns go, this is a belter.
Better yet, Hayne feels the love.
"They're along for this journey," he said last week when asked to comment on the slightly berko support back home.
"It's obviously a huge thing I've done, taking this chance. They find a lot of joy in it as well." So who cares if a couple of US professors announced last month that, after who knows what analysis, Dallas boast the best fans in the NFL? Or that their famed cheerleading squad boasts a pair of Aussies in its line-up?
For Angela and Jinelle, they can rest easy today, knowing the game is away.Leaving them to down pom-poms in front of the TV and relax. Cheering on Hayne like the rest of us.
