THINK the Ashes loss was dreadful?
Two retired New Zealand cricket stars reckon the Kiwis can inflict further pain and humiliation on the Aussies this summer.
The Black Caps have not won a Test series on Australian soil since Richard Hadlee was the destroyer in 1985-86 with 33 wickets in three Tests. including 9-52 and 6-71 at the Gabba.
But former Kiwi skipper Daniel Vettori and retired fast bowler Shane Bond feel the Black Caps can strike the Aussies while they are down in three Tests this summer.
Brisbane Heat coach Vettori will link with new Heat assistant coach Bond, the superb fast bowler whose international career was plagued by injuries.
Both men feel there could be some destruction before the Big Bash League starts. "Absolutely," Vettori replied, when asked if New Zealand could beat Australia in the series starting at the Gabba in November.
"You look at the key parts that make up a team and that (Kiwi) top order batting with Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor being so fundamental and the bowling with Tim Southee and Trent Boult taking wickets.
"Package all that up with Brendon McCullum's captaincy and his batting in the last couple of years. That ticks all the boxes that makes it a really good team." Bond, who was New Zealand's bowling coach until they lost the World Cup final to Australia at the MCG on March 29, also feels a new-look Australian side will be vulnerable at home."For New Zealand, there is probably no better time to take on Australia," Bond said.
