NICK Kyrgios (pictured) has brought sledging to a new low with his latest on-court comments (C-M, Aug 14), and in doing so has lowered Australia's reputation in world sport.
Not only did he attempt to sledge Stan Wawrinka, but he also denigrated Wawrinka's girlfriend Donna Vekic and South Australian tennis ace Thanasi Kokkinakis.
Having known Australian tennis when we led the world under Harry Hopman, the question is, where are our leaders in the game who appear to continually make excuses on Kyrgios's behalf, supposedly because he is only 20?
I would say that if you have not learnt manners by the time you are 20 you never will.
I would rather see Australia lose a tournament than to be represented by a person such as Kyrgios.

NICK Kyrgios was booed by fans at the Montreal Masters.
It couldn't have been because of his behaviour. It must have been because the fans are racist.
I wonder if Kyrgios will now have a week off from tennis.
Terry Varcoe, Norman Park
I AGREE with Dawn Fraser's recent comments about tennis player Nick Kyrgios. I'm very embarrassed. Despite hoping that Kyrgios would behave so that I could enjoy his tennis, he has once again made me cringe.
I can only hope there are some people out there who don't realise he is Australian.
Jill Hackett, Macgregor
NICK Kyrgios's mother was quoted in his defence as saying "a sledge deserves a sledge".
No. Two wrongs do not make a right.
The sooner her swollen headed and immature son understands this the better person, and more likely the better player, he will become.
Great tennis players do not allow the inevitable frustrations and disappointments to get the better of them.
They remain outwardly cool. Lose it and you lose the game.Judy Cutts, Imbil
