FROM BACK PAGE "Damien Martyn, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke, Phillip Hughes and Jake Doran are the five guys I think that I have heard more noises about and more certainty about from [an early age].
"They were tipped at 16 to play significant numbers of Test matches for Australia and make a lot of runs.
"Jake's the only one who hasn't played for Australia yet. These guys were prolific run-scorers and they were always tipped to be." Meanwhile, Australian -selectors admit they've been too hasty to bail on young talent and have vowed to change their policy with a new-look side for the tour of Bangladesh.
There are concerns over whether there's enough talent coming through the system to cover the likelihood that up to nine players from this Ashes squad may not play Tests again.
Usman Khawaja, Glenn Maxwell and Joe Burns are leading a list of young batsmen to fill the void left by Michael Clarke.
But with veterans Chris Rogers, Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh all with little hope of going on too much longer, Australia needs to find a host of young batsmen.
Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Bancroft and Peter Handscomb are others in the mix. Coach Darren Lehmann denied he was concerned about the lack of options, but admitted selectors needed to find patience that was sadly lacking in the Ashes - specifically when they dumped all-rounder Mitchell Marsh on a whim for the fourth Test.
"We've got some good depth, we've just got to stick with them," Lehmann said. "We've got to pick and stick a little bit now and make sure we've got the right formula for different tournaments and different formats and making sure we're not just discarding players really quickly.
"If we pick young guys we just have to stick with them a bit and ride that wave. "Our job is to really improve their skill level and how they learn about life."Lehmann said selectors were yet to discuss the futures of Rogers and Voges.
