AUSTRALIAN of the Year and anti-family-violence campaigner Rosie Batty will visit the Territory to speak at two public events this month. 
The inspirational speaker has engaged in a whirlwind of events since she was awarded Australia's pre-eminent title of 2015 Australian of the Year in   January and has dedicated her time to raising public awareness of violence against women and children and advocating for change.
Ms Batty (pictured) will visit several women's shelters, meet NT police and program facilitators and speak at two public engagements, one each in Darwin and Alice Springs.
Ms Batty said she was looking forward to the journey north and was keen to learn about the Territory experience.
"I understand that there some very real challenges with family violence in the Northern Territory but there are also some very committed people, leaders of the community who want to do something about it," she said.Australia Day Council NT executive director Kiya Gill said Ms Batty would join local campaigner Charlie King to deliver the Australia Day Council of the Northern Territory Address at the Darwin Convention Centre on Thursday,   August 20, and in Alice Springs the next day at an event organised by the Alice Springs Chamber of Commerce. Tickets to both public events are now on sale.
