LIKELY TEAMS ENGLAND Alastair Cook (c), Adam Lyth, Ian Bell, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Mark Wood/Liam Plunkett, James Anderson.

TALKING POINTS ENGLAND The home side's resurgence at Edgbaston has allowed them to be more patient with opener Adam Lyth than they might otherwise have been given his series average of 12. The main issue is with the bowling, not only who will replace the injured Jimmy Anderson but how the fastbowling unit as a whole will do it.
AUSTRALIA Mitch Johnson's bowling at Edgbaston, excepting his dramatic two-wicket over at the start of day two, lacked its usual hostility. The bigger issue for Australia lies in batting. They have relied on runs from at least one opener throughout the series but need hefty middleorder contributions, especially from captain Michael Clarke.
HEAD-TO-HEAD OVERALL: England 107, Australia 139, 93 draws.
IN ENGLAND: England 50, Australia 48, 66 draws AT TRENT BRIDGE: England 5, Australia 7, 9 draws.
PITCH REPORT Confirmation (from Stuart Broad) that Trent Bridge's curator has been in touch with his counterpart at Edgbaston is good news for everyone who appreciated the third Test - at least the way it was played, if not the result. The amount of grass scheduled to be left on for match day would replicate conditions from Birmingham. While it has a healthy green tinge there are expectations it will be slightly slower than the Edgbaston pitch, and probably better for batting. Pitch conditions will not solely dictate how easy it is to bat early in the match, because in Nottingham swing typically plays a big part, especially when overcast.
HISTORY FACTOR Only once in Ashes history has a team been in Australia's position, trailing 1-2, and gone on to win the series. That was in 1936-37, when England won in Brisbane and Sydney only for a Australia to captailise on the batting of Don Bradman and bowling of Bill O'Reilly and Chuck Fleetwood-Smith to win 3-2.If they do not win at Trent Bridge a series win will be impossible, while a loss would end the less-appealing prospect of Australia retaining the Ashes courtesy of a drawn series.
